Best recording programs for games?

Hey everyone,

I thought I'd create this topic to get some members opinions on what the best recording program would be to record game play such as Minecraft and I currently use Fraps but I wanted to use something fairly better and if not easier.

Fraps generates a massive file size for the videos that I'm not too happy about and would like to change..

If any of you wouldn't mind checking my channel to see if the quality of the videos is up to standard, I would be very appreciative also!

Thanks.

Camtasia is good for starting but lags abit and does not go full screen as far as i know, i use fraps but it is a bit CPU demanding, Dxtory is rather good, but abit confusing. thats all the ones i know

Thanks for the input guys.

You could try out camtasia studio 8 but it takes a long time to process/render
About processing time - as i remember i tried Premiere Elements (tryout) and it rendered significally longer than Camtasia.
Camtasia just laggy (at least for me) and its not smooth (with delays) when move preview slider, which i find very annoying (though it might be my PC resources problem).

p.s. Camtasia makes large file sizes too.

Try Bandicam. Makes MPEG videos which have a decent size. Plus you can record different audio sources on different tracks

All my videos are done in Camtasia, they are GREAT!; I downgraded down to 7 since 8 not only takes more resources but takes such a LOOOONG time to render/produce. Each file is almost 1.5gb which can be worked down; you can always discard temp files also, or archive your finalized material on externals, etc.

By the way, fellows, what is your opinion about "Microsoft Expression Screen Capture" recording quality?

Some time ago when i was searching for the right screen recording software, i came across and was using this free (free for up to 10 min. per video recordings, paid for unliminted time recordings) soft for some time and the quality of recorded gameplay videos was really good, i switched to Camtasia because ther were everything in one (screen recorder and video editor) and was easier to do things because of that, but i had a feeling that "Microsoft Expression Screen Capture" had a better recording quality of games than Camtasia (at that time it was Camtasia 7, so the Camtasia 8 version i feel is improved on this issue so im not sure now which one is better for recording gameplay), the only con was that free version is limited to 10 mins per single record and i was interrupted each time to pause game to start another recording for another 10 mins, oh and one more issue i had with "Microsoft Expression Screen Capture" on longer videos sound became out of synth (but its fixable on video editors of course, just additional attention needed to fix this issue on videos)

I personally use camtasia studio 8, and it runs pretty nicely, easy to use and all that good stuff, plus the editing software in camtasia is pretty good as well, give it a try and judge yourself!:)

I don't record anything complex on the computer, so I've been using XSplit to do stuff where I need to capture part of the screen (like Happy Wheels or anything powered by Sonic Worlds).
