Being more "you" on the tube

I'm actually more comfortable and relaxed when recording rather than in person. I guess that's the hidden me.

Just like in real, my social anxiety disorder tends to have a strong effect on my video, because to me it feels like I'm talking to complete strangers or I'm doing a speech with a huge audience. I'm just hopeful people actually enjoy my content, I know that I'm not outgoing but hopefully that doesn't effect my videos in a negative way and people might look past it.
I know that feel, bro. I have exactly the same problem. I'm slowly getting better but now it's just struggling for a topic since there isn't always one in the community we have going in a game.

My biggest downfall right now is that I have a tendency to say 'Errr', 'Ummm' and 'You know...' just out of habit when I look for words to explain what I'm thinking or if I don't quite know what to say. I've tried writing down what I'm going to say and it still happens but I figure it will go away eventually :)

Thanks everyone, im reading all the comments. Its really interesting how big of a personality spectrum youtube has.

Blacklightdemon, as for the err's and ummmms, i usually edit them out in my videos. But i've learned to stop saying them as much. Took a bit of practice. I only leave them in when I'm trying to be awkward.

Honestly, it just takes practice, keep on talking to your camera, and you will get used to it/get much better at it! Everyone is awkward in their first videos!! :)

I used to do that a lot! I would edit them out but then I'd end up with a lot of cuts mid-sentence. Now as I record, I'll usually do each sentence (or chunk of sentences before a jump cut) as many times as it takes to get a good, smooth take where I don't say "um" or anything like that.

I also highly recommend that everyone checks out Alex Day(Nerimon)'s "Unedited Production Values" video. You don't have to watch the whole thing, but watch a bit to help yourself realize that even the big, popular YouTubers have to start sentences over and over again, stop and think about what to say, etc.
