Background music claim. Is it disputeable?

just Moto

I Love YTtalk
My friend was out with us the other night at a bar and filmed a dance act with people in christmas costumes, the song in the back ground is obviously copyrighted and in the content ID system. I am just wondering if there is any way for him to dispute this or the claim is permanent.

Thanks

Yes for most music. I have some copyright music background but I just file a dispute. Just to let you know , it's the Youtube AI that's reviewing unless the music company of that song doesn't tolerate copyright, your videos might be taken down but mostlikely your videos won't get monitized that's it.

I tend to silence my audio on video clips with background music or videos playing in the background just because the music/audio is copyrighted. But you can still show the visuals (of course depending on what it is, dance club would be fine, movies would not for example) and edit your video in a way that pertains to Fair Use.

Most music is copyrighted that is played at Weddings, Dance Clubs, Casinos, etc. Best not to try and fight with it. Good luck!

It's definitely a good idea to file one, but with my experience youtube rarely reverses it's decision

I have ContentID and I can tell you it's not YouTube that decides if to reinstate the claim or release it. It's the copyright holder. Usually, if it is the same song as the claimed one or very similar/cover, they will reinstate the claim, unless you provide proof that you have all the necessary rights/licenses. There are some cases that the claimants don't listen to the song at all (examples - Orchard Music and Merlin) and will reinstate their claims even if you own all the rights and provide them to you, so you have to find different way to make them release the claims.
