Audio Recording

I have a rode videomic pro. I connect it directly to my camera and I don't really get that crisp clear audio... I heard about zoom audio recording inputs. and the juice thingy... what are those for and what should I get? and also... extension cables and stuff. Dead cat or kitten... please explain!

I wish I could help... The only reason I am posting here is because I saw juice thingy and dead cat or kitten. You called for random and I came.

What camera are you connecting it to? Make sure any sort of auto-gain in your camera's audio setup is turned off. If your audio signal is clipping, then turn it down in your camera-or if that isn't available, you might have to use the switch on the mic.

Another thing-while the mic is a shotgun mic, it does not have a super-narrow angle, so it will pick up other sounds around you-especially ones that are bouncing around off of walls, so keep that in mind when you set up a recording space.

I use 60d with magic lantern firmware...

If you got the 60D w/ ML make sure you set the audio on down just alittle bit. I hear it comes in a little hot so that might help.
I also have the 60D trying to get a rode or the H4N

Thanks bro! I'll go try that... hopefully there's improvements.

Don't get an or, get an and! I'm using a Zoom H4n and a Rode NTG-1.

Now I wouldn't say I'm dirt poor. I would say I'm on a budget but you get the idea

If you're looking at the videomic, get the regular one with the rycote mount. It saves you money over the pro and has no annoying rubber bands to deal with. Don't start shopping for a zoom h4n until August 5th. That's the release date for the new zoom h6, which should make the h4n a bit cheaper.
