Audience retention bad?

You have videos under 30 seconds, meaning an average of people on those videos stay less than a second...it's pretty bad.

Ouch! I do that to people, admittedly. I bounce from video to video, and never really stay for the whole thing. What can I say? I'm a 90s baby. We get bored easily. Anyway, don't feel bad, dude. I made like, 13 minute videos each, and my retention was like, -1%. :P LOL Not even joking right now.

I would think that Google counts your activities just like anybody elses. Don't be worried about you watching your own videos for whatever reason and it affecting the stats. Google is more concerned about real cheating.

As to being concerned that it will affect your Audience Retention data, if you're a smaller channel, then statistically, it would have an effect. In my case, it's very inconsequential.

I wish it didn't have statistical consequences :). Since I stopped checking my own videos on YouTube my retention has gone up 4% so I can still impact my own videos quite a bit unfortunately.

I'm glad someone pointed out that a lower percentage isn't too bad if you're videos are longer because mine is 4:10 (44.6%) but my average video length is 7-15 minutes. Guessing that's okay?

I would think that's great since people are staying over 4 minutes per view. I have a 56% retention but my videos are all short so people are only spending 1:16 on average watching.

Like people have said, retention success is definitely relative to how long your videos are.

I make both super short videos and medium length ones. Checking them individually, most people watching the short ones stay until the start of the outro and for the longer ones it's usually a bit more than 1/3 of it

While we are on the topic of audience retention(This saves me making my own topic), I currently have 4:07 (33.5%) viewer retention, but I don't think this is very good, is it?
My videos range between 12-16 minutes on average, I'm getting worried about this low figure :(

I think youtube care more about the minutes than the percentage (regarding search rank) so 10% retention on an hour long video (6 min watch time) is better than 100% retention on a 5 min video (5 min watch time)

but viewers are more likely to watch a shorter video so it's a trade off.
