Are outros/Outro Cards outdated?

Outros with links to other videos are really important IMO. People who get that far into your video like your content, by definition so why not showcase some of your videos to them? Even if they don't click there and then (maybe they don't have time) you are still getting the opportunity to show them what other sort of content you have which might make them want to sub and check out those videos in the future :)

I understand your concern because I see some large channels not using them too. However, I get 100,000 extra views a month on my end-card annotations. Since I have over 1,000 videos, This function helps me refresh older videos to my newer viewers.

intro cards will cause viewer retention to drop, but outro cards doesn't matter. People have already watched your content so anything extra is just gravy. That said a lot of YouTubers I've seen have opted for in video Call-to-Actions (subscribe, check out other videos) and having annotations there for that. An out card would also help with branding. I wouldn't recommend an intro card any more than one second. especially if you have ads on your videos and if you do keep it simple. Just a logo to help branding.
Definitely agree with all of this.

Thanks for all your input guys, some really great discussion!

It looks like it will be a great idea to make an outro card, as it seems to be a good way to keep people looking through your content and retain viewers! It's also a good way to establish my brand!

Thank you all very much! :)

I think almost all of the Youtubers big and small that I watch have them. That's why I started doing them.

I agree with katysbeautychannel on the outro vs intro part. I think the intro wastes a viewers time. Granted, I had a 15 second long intro graphic for more than 6 months before I realized it was affecting my views. I think people want to see what was advertised in the thumbnail immediately and not have to wait for cute music and old photos to pass.

Now as for outros, I think they are key to "call to actions." This is the time that the viewer is deciding what to watch next, whether or not they want to see you again or check out the video you mentioned in the one they just watched.

I think you should take the time to have an outro.

That said, can anyone help me make one???!!! Haha, no seriously, I need one!

I just got a really great one from someone in the graphics forum who is doing them for free! He did a really great job on making me an outro card! It's definitely worth asking him to make you one!

Thanks so much!

I think outros are still very useful to use. I have just started using them the past month, and have noticed a difference in click through rate to my other videos. I'm sure for some of the larger YouTubers it may not be neccasary.
