Are my fears justified?

Hello all!

I wanted to start a YT channel featuring my kids but have this nagging feeling of fear for my children. I don't know if I'm being too paranoid but when I hear of YT stalker stories, YT harassment stories, etc etc...it doesn't help. I actually started a YT channel when my son was 4 (2 years ago) and had uploaded about 4 videos. I started to get views and one person stole one of our videos and uploaded it on their channel. I think that's when I started panicking and deeply thinking "OMG, everyone in the whole world will know how my son looks like" - and that's scary. I removed all the videos after that. Fast-forward 2 years, to present day, and I posted 6 videos this time. Then a week later, I put them on private. :unsure:I want to make a YT channel, my son who now is 6, would like to start one too; I just don't know if I can get past this fear. Is my fear justified or am I being paranoid and overthinking things?

1- yeah, don't put your kids on Youtube, especially now of all times

2- the world is sick, and sadly a lot of sickos watch Youtube.

Your fears are justified, lots of people are uncomfortable broadcasting there personal life and as a parent you should be! Becides, With YouTube's throwing there problems on us and coppa cracking down hard on content that they think are for children its probably best to not post them anyways till we have clarification of what is considered content for children or not.

Thank you all so much for your replies. Given your replies, I've finally felt comfortable in NOT making a Youtube channel. I've always felt that I was just being paranoid. Plus, with the COPPA issue...I mean is it even worth it making a children's channel and taking the risk of putting your family out there?? I guess not.

Thanks again. And if there is anyone with other opinions and/or agreements, I'd still love to hear them!

I largely agree with the other replies. But if the main aim was to have a youtube channel with your kid then you could always do something that doesn't require showing faces - Minecraft videos/ toy reviews where the camera focuses ont he toy and you can only see you hands etc

you can compromise, make memorable videos, like birthdays/hikes/biking/museums, but always record from behind, closeups of objects, wide location shots, basically no direct/clear face shots.......
I recently made video for a class "LOCATION & EVENTS CAMERA SHOTS I use" & theres some scenes there where someone's face is seen from a side,,,other shots everyone is blurry because I am focusing on food items.
