Are images Copyrighted?

Can you get a strike for using a image in your videos?

Ie; using an image for CNN about a story that your talking about in your video.

Can u use it or is this against TOS?

i saw that uberdanger once got a strike for using a single frame from a cosplayer , now she was a youtuber but at the same time 1 frame of a video is in essence an image

the strike was removed in the end after they came to an agreement but yes you could technically get a strike although not as likely as you would from a video

Viacom gave me a copyright claim because I showed a pic from the new TMNT cartoon while discussing it because, oh silly me, I wanted to show a pic to further illustrate my point rather than the video just being me sitting a room talking about it and hoping you knew what I was talking about.

So yeah, they do copyright images. A friend of mine also got hit when she used a pic to further explain her thoughts on a Pretty Little Liars episode.

I hate those because unlike music where they give you the option to remove it but keep the video, there's no way to remove the pic, so you have to take the video down.

This is complete BS. We should be able to use images as long as we cite them. What does YT expect us to do? Make videos only about us talking to a cam, no references. WTF! Like anyone's gonna watch that if your not good looking.
They need to make s**t clear. This is part of fair use. We are crediting the creator.
Youtube really needs to step in and protect creator instead of dropping us off in the dessert when s**t hits the fan. Companies need to f**k off and stop flagging videos just becuase they dont like our opinion. Really YT, you take down our vids, because a company doesn't like our opinion?
YT- did you forget that creators are the reason that YT makes money, without us, ur worthless!!!

Free speach - more like any negative vids get flagged and removed.

Next their going to tell us that we can't say someone's name with asking them permission.

#makeyoutubegreatagain

I am so frustrated with all this copyright BS! You put so much effort and time into your videos and then they get removed, your account striked, next thing you know your account is gone or a company tries to sue you for a Million dollars for a vid you made $1 on. I dont understand why YT does nothing to protect us creators.

Enough of my bitchin and moaning. I am just one person.I know that no one really cares or going to read this. I know that things wont really change till the big creators on YT all call Youtube out for the cowards that they are acting like.

Till then, I will continue to do the best I can, until the day the big guys bully and end me.

Good luck and Peace out.

You are free to get a camera and take pictures yourself instead of using and relying on someone else's work.

That might be considered even worth because ur just essentially taking a pic and then claiming it to be ur own. Were as, when you take someone's image, you at least credit them.

If you took the picture yourself, it would be your own. What's the problem?

If you're using someone else's work, they deserve to be compensated. It's as simple as that. If you're not willing to pay for the right to use it, then don't use it. Crediting is not compensation.

YouTube has been helping people with fair use lawsuits, but, for the most part, their hands are tied from copyright law and the DMCA.

I don't think you get the point he's trying to make. No one is claiming the pic is their own. The pic is used to illustrate your points. For example, if I made a video about how I don't like Joker's new look in Suicide Squad and the video is literally just me talking and trying my best to describe it without a pic or thumbnail or anything, you'd still have no idea what I'm talking about. Sure, you can see an ad on tv or google the image I'm talking about, but if you have to seek information elsewhere to understand what I'm talking about in my own video, then I failed in the point I'm trying to make. Just imagine doing some sort of presentation at school or a board meeting without any slides, bullet points, bar graphs, nothing. No visual aids at all. Sure it can be done, but visual aids help you and helps maintain crowd interest.

Look at the bigger picture. Can you imagine AVGN, Nostalgia Critic, Cinema Sins, Honest Trailers and so forth.... just being a guy sitting in a room talking? You need to see at least footage of what they're talking about/poking fun of to get the full context.

In your example, in order to show what they're discussing, there is no alternative to showing clips from the movie they're discussing.

That would only be similar if the OP were to use images from CNN strictly to criticism and comment how CNN presented the news story, but they aren't. They're criticizing and commenting on something else that happened (completely unrelated to CNN) and are using CNN's footage. CNN is far from the only news source available and the OP is more than welcome to grab their own camera and chase the news stories themselves or purchase the license to footage (as many other news organizations do).

...but that's all arguing the subtleties of fair use, which rarely concerns YouTube anyway. As I already stated, for the most part, YouTube's hands are tied and, if you were to use footage or even a still from another source, they have the right to issue you a DMCA take down notice. Unless you're willing to potentially go to court over your the video, expect a copyright notice if you don't own all of the proper rights needed.

Schools and board meetings are a silly comparison since it would only be a few people watching the presentation instead of potentially millions.
