Anyone just made videos without marketing/promoting?

Loving YTtalk
My category is slightly different. I offer music for YouTubers to use for free.
I don't have much time to promote (or rather I don't know how to).
Would it be fine if I just made videos and upload and that's it?
Would my subscriber base grow naturally?

Has any just concentrated on making videos without any promotion and done ok?

I do little promotion, almost nothing at all, so I usually get more views on stuff nobody else or few people are talking about (see the Pro Wrestling X or Audiosurf videos).
Let's say it's a matter of finding topics without much mainstream coverage, or blind luck at times

Honestly, if you do the right title/tags, people will find you via YouTube search. I get like 70% of my views from YouTube search, so I mean, its possible without promoting. However, I would say it would be slower growth at the beginning.

I would find forums like this and say "Hey I offer music for people to use on YouTube" because we are a niche community of mostly YouTubers, and your audience is right here!

~ Yup!

Really? Ok that's actually quite comforting to know that search will do most of the work. Cause I am really busy. Who isn't right?
Yes I am determined but boy does it take time.

Don't get me wrong, a LOT goes into SEO and search rankings, so I mean, I'm not saying you will get LOADs of traffic as I really have never researched that niche at all. But it can help for sure. I would try to promote some if you can.

Oh, thanks for the sub!

I haven't really promoted my channel since 2013/2014 lol
Though I only got 20 new subscribers and most views came from YTtalk.

Oh well, 20 people found my channel :U

I post on my blog and have occasionally posted on n4g.com, otherwise I just put up a new video every Wednesday to usually little fanfare. But I'm cool with it. Once I can start producing high quality stuff I may up my promotion game.

I post to my dead facebook, dead-ish twitter, dead tumblr, dead Google+ and then in the forums here sometimes. I don't consider it promoting or marketing lol So I kind of just upload videos.

In answer to your question, yes it is possible and people are still successfully doing it, but like condo pointed out this can only ever really happen if you find a sweet spot in search traffic -- A topic or term that people are searching for that doesn't already have very established channels making videos for it.
