So I am filming an opening tonight for my monthly painting show, and up until this point all the episodes have been comedy based. 9 episodes and 9 months I have never broken character. The whole length of time that I have had a youtube channel. It started as me wanting to do a one time parody of a Bob Ross type show, and we just kept going. But this episode will be of art I have done in a more serious manner, but I do not want to alienate the fans we have gained already. Who are use to me doing ridiculous suggestions, and trying to paint them as well as I can while playing a ludicrous character.
I do intend to still do at least half of our episodes as comedy, but it was always my intention to film more serious paintings as well. Problem being it takes me about 30-50 hours to do each painting, sometimes upwards of 200 hours if it is like the 5ft x 7ft one I am working on now... So at this point it would be near impossible for me to do more than one episode a month, since I also work 25-35 hours a week. However, at 1 episode a month that is a long time to wait and I understand that. Especially if you were waiting for the next funny video, any ideas? I have never done this before, but I do know the one episode we broke format and did a fake interview with no artwork people did not care for it. They were use to watching art, and they will still get that but it won't necessarily be slapstick humor either. Any advice?
I know the audience is there to see art happen, I don't know if they will be disappointed that it is not humorous. But, I do want to make a clear distinction that I am not the character I play and the art I put up of my own will not be a joke like the rest of our episodes. So I don't necessarily want to make jokes even though I could... Sorry for the book!
