Any luck with Disclaimers?

Not really a big believer in luck, maybe I should rephrase to, "any success with disclaimers?" :mstickle:

My channel exists on two very opposite ends of the same genre. I've got more family friendly cartoons in line with Y7 or PG gags watched by a younger crowd, then I've got the TV-14 and up end of the spectrum that's more in line with the 18-34 demographic (stuff like my "Turnabout" animations).

As I've become more active again, I find the biggest conundrum is that each side wants only that thing (especially the later crowd who wants me to do more of the PG-13 stuff) but both watch my channel. I of course do not want to limit myself by fully committing to the 18+ crowd. Alas, there's a ton more reception from them-if not a little bit of guilt and the feeling I could have a channel that can no longer appeal to a broader audience nor be promoted. If I wanted to be a NSFW semi-hentai channel, I wouldn't be on YouTube.

However, fully committing to the younger crowd yields a lot less return, and quite frankly it can become very boring very quickly thinking of all the stressful ways to censor the weird artist I am (as if I have the FCC breathing down my back when I don't). The happiness levels also very much vary.

Point is-I'm into both kinds of content myself. Closest I've come is combining both, but that's even more stressful (maybe my anxiety doesn't help any either) and a constant source of worry about how covert can I be.

So at the end of the day I've thought about just doing both, but putting a "viewer discretion is advised" disclaimer in front of the more PG-13 stuff. I've already recorded the voice overs for them-it's just a matter of when to start doing this and whether it's a silly idea or not. Has anyone had to go down this path before?

Or maybe I'm just over-worrying and I'm fine and shouldn't let all the feedback of a vocal minority sway my channel's entire direction. A constant vocal minority nonetheless.

I don't know, I'm stressed, overtired, and on the verge of turning 26. Thanks for reading. :crying:

I'd say it can't hurt to have the disclaimer, that way if anyone gets ornery you can always point them back in its direction and say "I did warn you".

It sounds like you might be well-served by two channels. I know it's not exactly what you want to go with, but eventually, one or the other type of content may take off, and you'd probably want to remove/move the content that doesn't fit. Yes, you can make disclaimers, but even then, you'll get a lot of flak from people who say they weren't warned, especially if some of your content is aimed at kids who shouldn't view certain things.
