Any Experience with Green Screen (Chroma Key)?

Hi guys i got myself a green screen because I didn't have a good background in my videos.

i was just wondering if you have any experience with this and if so, how do you get rid of the very fine green line around the edge of your body without making a mess (eg. fuzzyness?)

Well I make sure you have the green screen lite well and a good back light on you to seperate yourself from the green screen.. also you don't want to be at least 3 feet or more away from the screen. Make sure you aren't leaving a shadow on the screen as well. What program will you be using to key it out?

I use the program Wax 2.0, its free so its definately not the best, but it does a good job of removing the green outlines

I'm using adobe after effects to remove the green and it works perfectly except for a tiny 2-3 pixel wide green line around my body, i'm using a feather option to blur it slightly but if i put myself on a light background you can still make it out.

can you bring the saturation down on the final render?

In order to get the best key possible multiple things must occur. First and foremost, you need a nicely hung screen, with no wrinkles and no shadows. Secondly you need two sets of lighting. One to light your green screen and the other to light your talent. Now to combat the green “spill” the goal is to move your talent away from the green screen, “preferably 5-10 feet away” and then light him separately with two soft lights, so that no shadows spill onto the green screen. The first light points directly on the talent and the second is from behind, aiming at his back to give him a nice rim light or “halo effect”. This helps separate the talent from the background and calls for an easier key in post.

Moving the talent away from the green screen is one of the biggest ways to get a better key and avoid spill, but the rest must come into play to make it perfect.

Lastly if you are using After Effects then use KeyLight to get your key more crisp. Switch view to screen matte. Then turn up the clip black and turn down the clip white until everything you want to key is clear. Then you are good to go.[DOUBLEPOST=1383857650,1383857568][/DOUBLEPOST]

If you have a good key you have no need to feather it. Preferably don't if you want to make it look good. If you are having trouble getting a perfect key then throw on a simple choker or matte choker and drag in the edges. Don't blur them.

Ahh thank you very much for introducing me to 'KeyLight' that is much better than 'Color Range'. I haven't done anything with green screen before so this is all a bit new to me.

I have moved some of the lighting around and am now using keylight and i'm getting much better results, thank you very much for your advice :)

No problem! If you need, let me know and I can throw together an advanced keylight tutorial for you. It is going to be the best choice of in editor effects for keying. However you can always get some pretty nice plugins to use.

I wouldn't complain, if you threw together a tutorial for Keylight.
