Another subscription based video platform is coming

I just learned about another subscription service, like Vessel but different, is trying to break through in the online video world. The site is trying to create another space where viewers can subscribe to a channel at a price that the creator sets. They claim there will be no set up fees. It's called oz.com.

There don't seem to be any requirements like Vessel where you have to have the video there for a certain amount of time before releasing elsewhere. It doesn't look like it's about the exclusive-release platform. There seems to be some element of sharability too. Not sure how this is going to pan out but the concept looks neat. Interesting video on their site too. I signed up to see what it's all about.

What do you guys thing about a platform like this showing up in the present time where sites like Vessel are trying to get exclusivity for some time and all the other things that are going on with 3rd party sponsorships on YouTube? Does it make things like Oz look appealing to you? I'm intrigued by it.

Non-exclusive is a big deal. Anyone that wants content exclusive to their platform will crash and burn. It's the same reason Azubu couldn't come close to touching Twitch.

Only downside to this site specifically is that it doesn't look like you can discover videos organically. Hell, I don't even see any videos right now, so I assume you have to sign up first before seeing them? And I'm not even clear on their subscription model, you have to pay first to see the videos? Seems destined to fail if that's the way they want to push content. You can't have that many barriers of entry to your entertainment anymore. People expect to click once and have it happen, no sign-ups, no paying, etc...

Guess we'll see how it pans out.

They launch in April it seems. They're in the pre-announcement stage, there's going to be stuff at SXSW.

When\If I find out more I'll share. Because if I can get a show started up on there I'm going to try it.

I've seen a few of these types of sites popping up, I can't say I'm 100% sure what they are trying to achieve? Am I right in saying they are looking to setup YouTube style channels that allow the creators to charge their viewers to see the content before it goes up on other sites like YouTube? Or is it to get those creators to upload content exclusively to their site which will never be seen on YouTube? Or am I completely on the wrong path haha!?
