Adding someone as a contact

Hey, so recently I've been getting quite a few number of people adding me as a contact on YouTube. What is the point of that? Heck, I don't even know how to do that on YouTube. What's the difference between adding someone as a contact and subscribing? Please clear up this confusion for me!
 
Contact= for messaging purposes and not notified when you upload a video.
Subscriber= Notified when you upload a video

Lol, I see...
So many are adding me as a contact but not messaging me.
I really don't get it... maybe they are just doing that to everyone they find on YouTube in hopes that their channels will get more views...

Well when someone adds you as a contact you'll most likely go and see who they are. Which is a view and possibly a sub.
 
I kind of block them they often sign up to try to send videos. I figure if they want to contact me its easy enough the regular way. It used to be easier for contacts to spam with videos and well often they add you to try to sell you traffic. In any event if someone wants to contact me well they can hehe.
 
For some reason YouTube works out that the more contacts you have the higher you are in the Metadata ladder. So if you and channel X have the exact same views and subscribers, you would be higher in the ladder of Metadata if you had 10 contacts and channel X had 5... I know it´s weird but no one said YouTube was "normal" hehe

Also people just random add you to make you look at their channel... It´s a tactic that can work but it is annoying in the long run.

The funny thing is a lot of them have nothing on their channel... lol.
