Adding people as contacts on youtube

That's how I feel. Just like some people are comfortable growing their channels by using mass e-mails and for many it DOES work, many other people just can't feel comfortable doing that. I couldn't really bring myself to do it either, though the usual counter argument is "but they showed an interest in you by subbing already" It still just.. I'd rather try other methods.

Yeah exactly! I dunno, if they show an interest you kinda already know theyre interested so I'd rather other methods too haha

You know, self promotion usually bothers me, but when people add me as a contact, which, of course, is not always self promotion, or send me a message about their latest video even if I haven't spoken to them previously, I don't mind. sometimes, I even check their channel out! Most of the time it gets deleted, though.

I like self promotion on forums really, but dont really like it when people do it on videos. Like, I understand there reasoning but theres other ways then just begging to be looked at...sorry if that sounded really mean to anyone D:

I used to think that it was pointless and just stupid, however there's a way to use it to your advantage, I don't personally but you can. Every time you gain a subscriber you could say "Would you mind if I added you to my contacts so that I could send my latest videos to your inbox? Sometimes they get lost in the feed" See I don't do it cause I just.. I dunno if they said no it'd be awkward and I feel it's intrusive, but some people do this and claim it doesn't bother most of their subscribers.

Oh I never thought about doing that. I don't think I would though. It sounds very interesting.

It does nothing. Some people put a contact lock on inbox messages, even though perfect strangers add them out of nowhere. It's useless.
