Acknowledged third party content

I've Got It
What are the implications of acknowledging third party content? My daughter sings covers and uses Karaoke versions of the original songs to sing to. Is that what all cover singers do? (i.e. acknowledging third party content)

Youtube is easily able to detect audio copyright. I'm not sure of the copyright issues with music based channels and covers though. Just a general rule though if you are singing on top of music and there is a pause in the lyrics and it's just the music youtube will detect that as matched content.

Same goes for videos with gameplay. If it contains music and there isn't any commentary or enough gameplay noise it'll get content matched.

I usually just acknowledge them and it usually means the 'owner' of the audio has the right to make money off of your youtube video.

I could be wrong, but this is what I've been told.

Yes, and it'll all depend on the song. Some songs will allow you to monetize and other's wont. When you look at your videos under the video manager, you may see the words: "matched third party content". Click on that and if you see "If this is your cover of a song written by somebody else, then you may be eligible to monetize it." Then you can try monetizing it.

Thanks a lot for checking. I'm not really interested in monetizing. I just don't want the video to be pulled due to copyright infringement.

To be honest know that Sony has rules that no Michael Jackson/Beatles are allowed without a license but they told me anything else is fine. Kobatl Music Publishing allows almost any cover unless they are told to take it down. In rare cases do you get a copyright strike. The video would just be blocked
