About Effort

So the next video I will be uploading shortly (though it will take forever I am sure) Is the most effort I have done in editing and an attempt to bring HQ content. I am extremely proud of the end product and I am looking forward to showing it off, but my question is:

Do you find yourself putting forth a lot of effort on the editing and post recording aspects of the video, or do you focus on when you're in front of the camera?

Until this video I mostly just focused on me in front of the camera, but I am happy to start learning and get better at editing. Helps the video go smoother.

excited to see this man! mostly i just focus on me in terms of my vlogs.. but the tag videos like the Q&A's they tend to take alot of time and effort! the lets plays too since i'll be trimming an hour video down to about 5 to 10 minutes.

Post editing in my Lets Plays were quite a bit of work to do, mixing in two audio tracks (or four when its me and kids) and any cut scenes that were required. Also the Intro's and Outro's have to be done to and edited to reflect relevance to the episode. I think I spend at least 15 minutes on a simple post edit and any up to an hour on one of the more complex ones.

Although I don't do vlogs, this can kind of apply to me as well. Philip DeFranco said a quote which I hold up "There will always be those videos that you don't feel are the best they could have been, you could spend a lot of time doing small things to make it better, but in the long run its better to theow the video up rather than hold on to it for time after time" - The more I quote him, the more obscure the quote gets, I'll have to find the video. But the basic thing is: Maybe not every video will be the best it could be, but is it better to spend a long time trying to make it a little bit better, or throw it up and start working on the next?

YouTube is trial and error. You learn things as you come to them.

yeah I push myself all the time to get better and better whether its video performance or editing its a very important quality to have.

I'd say it's about equal for me.
I definitely turn it on and turn it up when I'm in front of the camera and I can always tell when I was a little off on shooting day.
But because I noodle around so much and end up with so much footage to smoosh into 3-5 minutes, a lot of the "writing" actually happens with editing.
Not that I'm a super editor or anything, but I do put a lot of work into making the finished product.
