Hey guys.
I think this is the right section, if not, please correct me. Anyway.
I recently went hard at looking for the right camera. After going to Futureshop, Bestbuy, Henrys, I finally came across the camera I think is affordable, and also a great quality camcorder.
I know Camcorders aren't "in" these days, with DSLRs and these crazy expensive camera, but, I have to say, it's definitely a camera that I can recommend. After playing around with settings, playing with render settings in Vegas and trying to pin point every mistake I was making, I think I have come across the perfect settings for rendering and shooting.
So you're probably asking what camera I'm talking about. It's
Sony Handycam HDR-PJ230.
(I tried to link to the Sony site but can't!)
The camcorder itself has built in 8GB memory, so no need for extra memory, it has a built in projector, and can shoot up to 60FPS for those slow mo shots should you want them.
The camera itself runs about $350 US on the Sony website, but looking on Amazon there are cheaper places to get this camera from. The reviews from it are very sparse. Not many of them online. It took me actually going to Futureshop with my laptop to actually make my choice on the camera.
The built in memory is a huge plus. If you ever go out and forget to bring a memory card, not a problem because of the built in memory. The built in projector is good to have, but it's kind of a gimmick at the moment. I'm sure if you want to show someone a video, that's a plus I suppose.
The low light shooting is great. I shot a video at 11pm at night in my bedroom with just an overhead light on, and it had great quality. It shoots 1920x1080 60FPS. I know 1080p for YouTube isn't really relevant, but, the quality you can't pass on. It also takes 8.9mp Stills.
Another plus is the stability. If you're using it to vlog, and you don't have a steady hand, the camera will make up for that and help you out.
There is also a built in USB that connects to the hand strap and is out of the way, so you don't have to always worry about taking the memory card out, or hooking another cord into the camera. Although it's a short cord, they provide you with a USB extender.
Lastly, the only real con i can find to it, is there is no external mic port. I've kind of gotten around that by recording audio (while at home) to my Blue Snowball mic, and syncing the audio up in post which is fairly simple.
All in all, if you're looking for a vlogging camera, I would definitely take a look at this camera.
Once again, if this is the wrong section, I apologize!
Thanks for your time!
