A blurry background?

Often seen in films and vlogs, I've been aiming for this effect which looks nice and professional.
I've looked a few tutorials here and there, but does anyone have good experience with this and share their knowledge for me and the whole of the YTTalk community?

Basically, you just want to take the f-stop on your camera down as low as you can.

Manual focus is your friend! Easier to do if you have a DSLR (standard camcorders don't really allow for fine tuning of focus).

Thank you! I've looked at some ranging at £300, so I'm gonna have to save up some money for a new camera. Although I'm content with my camera, and it does 720p HD

Nikon D3100 is a great priced camera, although it doesn't come with a mic input (it has a decent built in mic).

I do not know what kind of camera that you already have but if you take your camera and place it further away from the subject than you normally would and zoom in on the subject this sometimes will blur the background.

If you have a DSLR, prime lenses tend to have a good depth of field effect (blurred background)
