Does anyone have a 3D camera, or plans to get one? I found this Aiptek camera to be pretty interesting and it has a decent price, so I thought about purchasing it...

Could making videos in 3D bring you more views and subscribers?

My presonal experiance as a 3D phone owner ( HTC Evo 3D ) is that 3D is okay but it gets really frustrating when you don't have an equipment to play back 3D videos on. The biggest issue I faced so far is that making it worthy of the money you pay for the 3D is really hard, since it's either looks too flat or too far away so to get it absolutely right is a rather tricky task. Overall I would say that many people today are into useless stuff ( like people who don't need or know how to use a new IPhone still buy one ) and this is no different with 3D capable equipment especially TVs plus TVs that can go on the net an stream youtube videos are getting into the market it may bring you some more views. The reason for that and the reason that 3D mostly fails is that there is no good content around that is available for everyone, yes there are 3D movies ( altho they then to cheat, because I only count movies as 3D if they were recorded in 3D mostly and not post-edited to give it a cheap looking 3D effect ), 3D games, 3D photos and so on there is 3D content around, but I would say it's fairly new for everyone, both the people who create it and the people who watch it. So I think you should give it a try see it for yourself but don't ever produce 3D only since that will scare away your non-3D :D viewers, try like uploading 2 versions of the same video.

Pretty much what above poster said, I think ESPN is canceling some of its 3D channels because there was no real user growth watching them, this is kind of same for the 3D technology, at this too few people actually have 3D playback to make it worthwhile trying to get their attention, on the other side of the issue you could be one of those pioneers who gets popular for the 3D videos, for me personally I am trying to figure out how to record PC games 3D and do that as the next step for my own channel, not sure if it will work though

I had a 3D monitor for my PC, but hardly ever used it to watch 3D things. I just got it because of the high refresh rate. Then sold it to get a slightly nicer one, I don't really see the point in spending the extra time making sure the right thing is being focused on and the extra time editing and rendering it right.

It might bring some new subscribers and viewers but you would have to be making interesting short films or something to keep peoples attention and to show off the 3D :)

I'm pretty sure that YouTube has a feature to switch from 3D to 2D, so it could make the videos available to all the users who don't have a 3D monitor, as well as to the ones who do,... isn't that right?

That isn't right no. You need 3D glasses and a 3D monitor to be able to view the video in 3D. The feature is just there so if you have these things you can use them.

Not really, we are talking about stereoscopic 3D, the youtube feature only does the old Cyan and Red conversion which is not really 3D

Like most people have said, its kind of a waste of money. Unless the camera is a great camera with 3D feature, at a bigger price, then Id say go for it. But I wouldn't buy it if you're looking at it strictly for the 3D part. I have a 3DTV and it was a waste of money if I was buying it strictly for the 3D. It's a 51' LCD with a 3D features, so, I didn't buy it specifically for the 3D. I couldn't pass on the price either, so it's just kind of there. It's more a novelty ATM
