I got a DSLR about six months ago and have been using my old canon vixia HFS 21 and shotgun mic with that as the audio, but it's just to much to carry and kind of a hassle. I was looking to get the Zoom until I came across the Tascam and I'm not sure which would be best?

I plan on using it for some bands I've been filming, local commercials, and of course youtube. The price for them is about the same, which one do you use or prefer using?

Thanks!

I've used both pretty equally. Both of them are pretty good. I don't think you can go wrong either or. Especially if you plan to put external mics into it. Otherwise if you are looking for the quality of the mic itself I'd advise hop on YouTube and watch test videos of both and see what works best for you.

The Tascam has better preamps and will have a bit less noise than the Zoom. If you don't need the built in mics, take a look at the Tascam DR-60D. It sells for $349 and attaches to the bottom of a DSLR.
