Yet another thumbnail question...

Brent Blogs

Blogger, vlogger, comedian, & ranter.
Is there something I'm missing?

I posted a few weeks back asking why custom thumbnails haven't been enabled on my account. (My account is definitely older than 30 days, all in good standing, verified partner, and all but one of my videos are monetized)

The response I basically got both here and in the Google forum was, "Sit tight. There's nothing you can do. Just be patient."

But I'm starting to wonder now that more time has passed if there's something I'm missing... YouTube is rather ambiguous in terms of how they enable this feature, but do they have "hidden" requirements like...?

Country of origin?
Minimum number of views/subs?
Certain days of the week they flip the switch?
A certain amount of revenue your videos need to have generated?

Etc.

I understand that this feature is enabled systematically by an algorithm with no human interaction. That said, an algorithm by its very definition needs to satisfy its own mathematical argument. Therefore, there has to be a clear cut answer to this question. There has to be a logical rhyme/reason as to why I still don't have this feature enabled.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, my youtube channel was active for a long time before I started posting vids, and it let me do it straight out of the gate. I have no idea why you are missing out, as your channel is well over a month old, and that is what youtube says is required before you get custom thumbnails. All I know is that it worked for me, and I hope someone here can help you out a bit more.

After 30 days they look over your account (check copyright) before enabling them between 10-20 days after that.

Hey Shane - I appreciate the explanation. But it's still rather ambiguous. My account was 30 days old 19 days ago. I have no copyright strikes, claims, issues, etc. All green lights and in good standing. So again, it just sounds like, "Be patient. There's nothing you can do." But the ambiguous nature of the message YouTube delivers on this subject irritates me because an algorithm isn't subjective. It just follows a series of logical steps to arrive at one conclusion. And evidently there's something in that mix right now that says, "Don't give Brent Blogs custom thumbnails." I'm trying to figure out what that piece is.

YouTube will explicitly be ambiguous about this - anything we can say will be speculation. I can say from experience though, I've had an account that was a few months old, and only got thumbnails after 30 monetized days. I've also had one that took an extra month or so. Unfortunately though, there's not really much to do, unless you know a YouTube staffer to kiss up to. Google likes their secrets.

30 monetized days may make sense. Because I didn't have my videos monetized for the first week or two. I also didn't upload a video until the account was roughly one week old. So maybe that's part of the delay. I've made a sexy thumbnail for each of my videos and I just want to upload them, dammit! (And when I say sexy, I'm teasing. It's just my ugly mug. Don't want to start off my thumbnail privileges by posting deceptive pictures of half-naked ladies)

I hear ya - it's frustrating. You'll get there though!

The 30 days minimum has gone now as of today. Unfortunately in your case, it's for new partners starting today.

This makes me want to cry.[DOUBLEPOST=1365740928,1365737695][/DOUBLEPOST]I know I'm not allowed to promote my videos in this forum, so I'm assuming that extends to my blog as well. But I decided to do a short rant on this on my blog. Should you have any interest in checking it out, I'm sure you can figure out the URL just based on my YouTube channel name ;-)
