I think that the recent change to YouTube is to make it look cleaner and easier for the non-youtuber to understand. We may think that subscribers know how to navigate the website but in actuality, more non-subscribers visit or watch videos than subscribers (or those with accounts).

They aren't making a "new" YouTube, they are simply just updating with time. If websites didn't update they would look out of date easily within a few years. Websites change all the time to keep up with current looks, feels, and user-interface... plus to make things feel fresh.
