When to look for a Network

When do you think a channel in general should join a network? When do you think a channel like mine should join a network?

I am mainly interested in networks for their interesting perks, that might allow me to try new things in production. What networks are very focused on content support/ creative support?

I'm not sure. At the moment I haven't given it much thought, as my channel is far from that stage, but what can a network offer you? I don't need full level production assistance, but access to some equipment would be exciting.

Sadly at your size, I doubt much. You'd most probably be able to use their music library, maybe get a small amount of promotion but that's about it.
 
There's a few networks that have production facilities. You can either tie in use of the facility into your contract (pay them a larger cut) or do a pay as you go system with a decent discount compared to other rental spaces. Use of facilities/equipment is usually reserved for larger channels of around 100k subscribers and at that level, you can use YouTube space free of charge. Network perks are never free-they always come at some sort of cost, so while you're building your channel up, I'd advise you to try to pay for the stuff you need on your own so you don't get locked into a long term contract from a network looking to take advantage of you.
 
Thanks for the tips guys. I doubt I will a network any time soon, I don't even want to monetise yet! So should I wait until 10k subs until looking into this?

I'd wait to monetize until you're assured of meeting the $100 threshold each month. When you're starting out, the most important thing is building an audience and ads get in the way of that. I'd seen too many channel monetize right away and drive potential views away from an already lackluster total, so make sure you have a large enough/stable fanbase that will watch your videos with the ads before you start monetizing.
 
I have to agree with everything WrecklessEating has said. You will not get much production help from networks if any at this point. If you need help with production, there are tons of filmmakers all across the world. Find some, and make friends who will help out with major shoots and bring extra equipment as needed. I worked on a 15 minute film that had multiple professionals there: professional actors, professional equipment, etc and no money was spent on any of it. We were shooting a PSA, and everyone there just wanted to help out. If you can meet some people with similar hobbies, you can often find extra resources. It is kind of an I scratch your back, you scratch mine kind of industry when you first start.
