You've used your house colours same as your icon, advertised your main game and got an font/title that stands out (y) :D nice!

First time making a bg?..
I think when you have images try make them blend in with your bg...
Add some light somewhere as well.
Maybe some blended designs
 
I think this gets the message across quick-sharp! you're here to watch halo and its serious business! When you cap some more footage you could screenshot them into a wallpaper and merge a few together into a mural of sorts.
