Styling YouTube Closed Captioning

I've been working towards transcribing all of our company's YouTube videos so that proper CC is available to our viewers... We would also like to ensure that by default, our captions appear with a black background.

I understand that this can be swapped by the user by hitting the 'b' key, but I am trying to find a solution on our end.

After reading this article (https://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2734698) I started to transcribe some video files into the RealTime format (.rt) and styled the background to #000000 (black) within that file. Unfortunately this still doesn't give me the black background by default when I view the video.

Any ideas and solutions are appreciated!
