Hey everyone,

For the past two days we have been having some server issues which I have been looking into, I have decided to switch off the chat system and also the moods so I can do some testing as I think we may be having some issues with them both coupled with the massive influx of bad bots indexing the site. I have noticed since disabling them both things are running much more smoother.

Thanks for your patience everyone :)[DOUBLEPOST=1350766397][/DOUBLEPOST]A small update, I have been optimising the site here and there to try and get the homepage load time down as much as possible as I have noticed a few people mention this as of late, the top statistics at the bottom are now no longer available to guests (you must be logged in to view them), I have removed avatars for the latest threads to help by having less images to load and made the latest threads now display 5 rather than 6. There is still more to do but the changes may help a little.

The server has been fine since removing the moods and the chat system, we will be considering whether or not to keep the chat/moods to help keep things running as fast as possible for everyone and the chat we use has been known for causing these kinds of issues.
 
I hope I don't sound like I'm moaning but I really liked the avatars in the Latest Threads section. Is that likely to make a comeback?

I am happy to put up a chat room on a tab available to everyone with other 50 posts so yous can stay in touch that way but not the same system we had previously.

That is something I have been considering bringing back since it only saved us a few kilobytes and I have been able to make cuts elsewhere to compensate so yeah it is very likely. I am still trying to balance things out :)[DOUBLEPOST=1350917649][/DOUBLEPOST]Okay it is now back, I do prefer it like that and it does make a big difference in the sites appearance.
 
although the problem is fixed just for future reference, you could try adding code snippets to the forum header and it should make it run faster
 
What kind of code snippets are you talking about?[DOUBLEPOST=1351015978][/DOUBLEPOST]We now have a new chat system, not as robust as the other one we had but it does allow members to chat to one another which is the purpose of a chat room really, it is accessible to anyone with over 50 posts by clicking Chat at the top of the site:
