Question about video frequency

Hey folks! :)

So I would like to hear peoples oppinion/experience with how much content one should put out. I started doing gaming videos about a month ago, and just got my first 10 subs (yay).
However, as I am working a fulltime job, I find it hard to make more than one video each week. I think I can push that to 2 videos pr. week once I get more experinced in editing, but I see other gaming channels put out content every day, and I simplty cannot compete with that.

One of the reasons it takes me long, is because I edit my videos a lot. I like to edit, but I wonder if I should go for an approach where I edit less and make more content?
So my questions is:
  1. In your experience, Is it realistic for a Gaming channel to upload 1-2 times pr. week and still gain attraction?
  2. Should you as a gaming channel focus more on the amount of content, rather than the editing quality of your content?
I appreciate any thoughts on this!

Quality is always better than quantity. Don't lower your own standards just to put out more videos, you'll only regret it when you look back on it. Make sure you're proud of each video you put out, and if you're enjoying then you're winning.
You can definitely grow with 1 or 2 videos a week, but I won't lie and say that daily videos wouldn't help growth. Just remember, a lot of these big daily video channels do this as a job so they've got nothing else to distract them from making this content every day.

Hey Die Man.

Interesting post. I'm in a similar situation to you. Full-time job but want to make more YouTube content. Tons of ideas but no time to put those ideas into practice.

To put it into perspective - i've been uploading at least one video a week for about 8/9 months now (72 vids in total) and managed to get 150 subs and around 11,500 views. I know channels that have been uploading for way less time than me and have higher stats already. My outlook on it though? I don't really care too much about the stats. Obviously, getting more subs/views/hours would be great and I do try to promote myself, but i'm mainly doing this for fun. Try and make your channel work for you outside of just getting subs. I've managed to bag myself a few review codes and a content creator pass for an event near me in the past. Your channel will help you improve your time management, photography skills, writing skills, photoshopping skills, increase your confidence, let you meet interesting people etc.

If you jump onto YouTube and expect to make it big super fast then you gonna lose steam and quit. Not that I blame people who do. It's super frustrating to put lots of effort into something and not see much for it.

YouTube is a marathon. It can take months/years to get traction. The other week I was filming a guy who has 1/4 million subs on YouTube. He uploaded his first video 10 years ago. Set small goals for yourself. Make stepping stones. You've hit 10 subs. Well done! I mean that! Now aim for 20. 50. 100. Don't lower your quality just for the sake of fast growth.

Yea i would really hate to lower my quality. For me, most of the fun has been my improvement in editing, and finding new techniques to use. I shouldn't let that go. Thanks for the sanity check!

Thanks for the response guy!

Before I started I had no idea that youtube required such a huge time investment, but that being said it is the most fun I have had with a hobby in forever, so I won't quit :)

And I guess you are right regarding goals. The funny thing about starting this is that each view and subscriber feels like a huge acomplishment, So I should properly focus more on setting some small goals and just embrace this journey, whereever it might lead.
