Question about partnership

Peter

Obsessed Guitarist

Hey guys,
so maybe I'll look dumb for asking but I've read so many kind of answers on this topic that I'd be glad if somebody could clear it up for me. :)

So basically my question is this - do I have a chance to get partnered with a network (not now but in the future at some point) if my channel is about cover songs? The thing that bothers me is that I have a third-party match on almost all of my videos even though I rarely use the original tracks in my covers (I know it still counts as copyright).

So yeah that's my question, I'm eager to read your answer, thanks in advance! ;)

yes you can, in the long run yes, but sadly partnerships are strict with the copyright soo you gotta pick some that does not strike you

Sadly the short answer is no. Cover songs are never allowed, because you need permission from the artist and/or label in order to earn revenue from it. It's one thing being for e.g. in a band and covering a song in a pub, but this is considered published media and could land you with a lawsuit.

The only type of songs that emulate other songs that are allowed are parodies providing you use your own backing music.

You cannot do cover songs unless you have the permission from the label or original artist.
Yeah, covering songs is okay. Creator X would be your best bet. Apply

No, they allow you to cover all the songs from FAM (Fullscreen Artist Mix)
Pretty much all the songs in there are low-time or classic or by a lesser known artist, the covers he`s doing are owned by labels such as Sony, Universal , Warner Music etc Which he wouldn`t be allowed cover. :p

I see, thanks for the answers guys. ;)

I just find it a bit unfair that for example gamers are allowed to partner while musicians who are also passionate about what they're doing can't do so due to the copyrights. :/ I'd be more than happy to compose original music but there's no way that I could be recognised without a great amount of subscribers so yeah, this makes me a bit sad. I liked YouTube because you were able to show your talent to the world but these measurements just make it quite impossible. :(

It is a shame, and a bit unfair I'll admit. I guess really the way they see it is, a musician covering a song and earning money could potentially take away sales from the original (if your cover was better etc) but uploading footage of a game will only increase sales for the most part (since watching a game isn't exactly pirating it so to speak). But I do agree that there should be some allowances made.

I know, but still they have the chance.

I see where you're coming from and actually it's a reasonable point, yet it would be nice if there was a change as you mentioned. Not likely though. :p
