Point and Shoot Camera VS Camcorder?

Hey everyone, right now I am using just my iPhone to record my videos, but I wanted to get a semi-better camera, mainly for a wider angle lens and better quality.

However, I was wondering for sit down vlog style videos and the occasional "artsy" video, would a point and shoot camera or a camcorder be better?

I was trying to find cheapish used cameras because I don't have the funds to invest in a really good camera. When I was looking at camcorders though, the MP were on the lower scale (~5 MP) to the point and shoot cameras (~12-16 MP), with both shooting at either 720p or 1080P. Does the MP matter when it comes to making videos?

Also, one more question, is there such a huge difference between videos in 720p/1080p? I found a canon elph 300 for relatively cheap used, but it only shoots in 720p and was wondering.

I'm sorry if this was a long ramble and too many questions, I just want to make sure I think everything through before making a purchase :D.

I asked this a while back and most said a camera is better than camcorder

And I'd say if your gonna save for a camera go for the one you think is beat rather than picking the cheaper one you could afford sooner
I did this and now I've to save all over again :p

I'm sure you could find a canon 600d pre owned
For cheap enough :)
That's what I'll probably do then find a lens

When you're shooting HD video, basically you're shooting at 2 megapixels (1920 * 1080 = 2073600, which is barely above 2 megapixels).

What matters more is other things, such as vibration reduction (doesn't matter as much if you use a tripod), sensor size (effects the quality of the output), and color reproduction. 720p is acceptable, if I had limited funds I would probably try to go for something good quality but maybe slightly older, even used or refurbished.

Thanks for your advice guys! I think I will just end up saving instead of rushing into buying a camera and then having to save for another one down the road. Since I'm just starting out I think I'll focus more on the quality of the content and working on that then the hardware I use. Thanks so much :D
