Partnerships and ad sales teams

I've Got It
Hey guys, I noticed on the MCN guidelines and information page on Youtube that MCNs should have an ad sales team. I googled around what exactly ad sales teams did andhow they effected you. I guess ad sale teams allow for higher CPMs and earnings by partnering up with companies to put their ads on videos for a price.

Could someone explain to me exactly what ad sale teams do and how they get certain ads to go on certain videos? I don't quite understand the content management system.

I am trying to get all the information I can for the future. I just started my channel not too long ago but in the next six months I would like to join a network and do it right and start doing my research VERY early.

Thank you everyone! so far this forum has been great and lively.

When you put ads on your videos they are monetized. You receive a split of the earning from these advertisements.

Some MCNs have ad sales teams, a few don`t.

Either way they only sell 40-80% of advertisements, never all of them.
The have a special account on Google Adwords to do it.

I know that much, I was just wondering how exactly the ad sale teams operate. Do they contact companies and become business partners and then run their ads for a fee over other ads? Like I said, I was more wondering about ad sale teams operations and how the CMS works. I am just a bit confused on how they/it all operates.

Thank you for the answer! I was just confused as I was looking at so many networks and none of them explained it in detail.

As I said before, it`s done with a special account on Google adwords not the CMS.
MCNs usually have a bank of ad publishers saved up.

A common misconception is that when you join a network all the ads are worth more as they are coming from these other ad sales. This is false. In fact all or the majority of ads are normal AdSense ads that any AdSense YouTube partner can get.

An Ad Sales Team would augment these ads and have greater control over what and how the ads are shown.

For example if a network has lots of channels with a particular game, they can sell ads to competitors of that game or others who want to advertise to that game's audience. These ads can be targeted to only be shown on those specific channels which produce content for the game.

This is advantageous because click thru rates AND cpm will likely be higher, benefiting the channel, the network, and the advertiser.

Thanks, this was very informative.

Essentially, Adwords is great at targeting the viewer because YouTube analytics tracks their likes and dislikes based on the content they watch. It however does a terrible job of matching ad content to the channel as most of us all have seen. It doesn't consider whether that user would be more likely to buy the new video game DLC of the game they're watching, only that they are for example 23, male, watch a lot of videos all the time and probably need razors.

This requires a degree of override and customization which is the point of the ad sales team much like Flammy said.
