Paid Product Placement vs Adsense

The terms of service seem a little vague in this area.

My understanding is that youtube "may" decide to disable ads on a video with paid product placement. But is that normally the case, or an exceptional thing?

Does anyone have any experience with ticking the "paid product placement" box and then having ads as normal, or were the ads gone automatically in all cases?
