Norwegian Prison System

Hey all, recently I made a video about an interesting experimental prison in Norway. It is all about healing and rehabilitation, very very controversial. But, the re offending rate is only 16 percent. Interesting food for thought! Enjoy!

very nice video. I agree and no I have never broken the law not even a little.. (okay maybe a couple of parking tickets .. lol but.. otherwise no)

Thanks! Haha, as to breaking the law...I can't say the same ;)

eh I have never been very good at being bad I was always the shy one in class that blushed if the teacher wanted me to answer a question. I always did what I was told and was a latchkey kid as both my parents worked. I was on the "phone us when you get home" program I think I was only 8 when that started. I was pretty well trained lol. Not all kids are like that but I am /was pretty introverted so I was content to go home and turn on the tv and play in the basement with my barbie dolls. I remember trying marajuana once it made me sleepy and I thought that was an expensive way to get sleepy lol. Yes I am wierd lol and I know it. I drank a beer the other night and woke up with a hangover because I never drink! lol :D

Hehe...I am not exactly the life of the party but I do have my moments of extroversion. Otherwise though, I very much internalize my emotions. My parents were overprotective, but that is what lead me to rebel! I'm glad...it's made me this intellectual-fiery-liberal-badass. I love it and it's a huge part of my identity. I think it's actually very charming that you were very shy and quiet. I love people like that! I also love to be alone with my computer and endless time :).

So you've tried pot, eh? I actually have not yet. I would, but the opportunity has not come up yet. And be proud of your weirdness!

It is an interesting social experiment. That seems to be part of the debate over what to do with people who break laws, should they be punished or given a second chance. Personally I don't know the answer, it is tough because laws are so general whereas cases of law infractions each have their own unique circumstances.

I think the punishment kinda needs to fit the crime. A guy who robs the corner store is not the same as a serial killer. If we kept everyone in jail who broke the law for robbing 20 bucks from a corner store we would have another social issue because it costs money to keep people in jail. They are no longer contributing to society. However if you treat the guy who robbed the local corner store like a serial killer you will likely turn him into one or something just as nasty. Does this guy who robbed the corner store deserve to be treated like that? I dont think its a very good use of space to keep guys who really are no danger other then they have sticky fingers locked up like that. Teach them to not have sticky fingers is better I think. You take people out of society for a long period of time it causes other problems because theyc an't handle being reintegrated. If you look at "repeat offenders" one of the biggest reasons repeat offenders well repeat is because they can no longer handle living on "the outside" they become institutionalized and that is a huge problem. They are used to being told when to eat, sleep, take a pee and live in small cells. They loose social skills and learn to deal with being treated like criminals and learn to like it. You know then their term is over and they get dumped back into the real world and they dont know what to do. That isn't the answer either. On top of it people who served their sentance and "did their time" are often treated by society like dirt. They then commit another crime to get out of being treated badly. Its a cycle which is hard to break. No one wants to give them a job blah blah blah. So they can't live so they rob another corner store. We have to do better then that lol. Now if you have a total sociopath who will never learn because he can't because he is well a sociopath that is a different story he needs to be kept off the street, but we also create sociopaths by treating people certain ways.
You abuse a person and treat them a certain way long enough they change. All cause he robbed the corner store :) Does that make us any better then the guy who robbed the store? meh I dont think so lol.

well lemme see I am 50 now and when I was about 16 or 17 a friend gave me some to try when we went out one day riding our bicycles. It did not impress me. Also it wasn't pot it was err hash and i think that is different but i dont know enough to know the different. All I know is i can smell it a mile away! lol

Our society does not serve criminals which is interesting, consider 1-2% of our population in this country is in jail at any given time. Given the mass incarceration, you would think that a criminal history wouldn't be as significant as it used to be , but it seems to be becoming more so. I think also that punishing doesn't actually change unwanted behalves and I have read science that has backed that up (don't have the source though).
