Custom Thumbnails are a must. If you want an easy free way to make them check out Pixlr.com. It's like a low tech free photoshop.

I make all my thumbs using Pixlr

It's very basic and easy to read. I like that! I think it could all blend together a little nice and the text could have a gradient or something to make it look a little nicer
