Monetize is the term used for making money off of youtube you monetize your videos and get ads put on them and then make money from people viewing the ads.
Now onto activating it I can't really remember but it should be in your account settings or something like that, it should be easy to find

YouTube will generally contact you about this once you get enough views on your videos and enough subscribers.

Yea I have a few vids monetised and its kewl but I have only ever made a few cents on a video LOL. I don't know if anyone does really make money with this but its a good idea. The other thing is that with being a song writer and putting your track in say the background of your vids you really do have to prove that you own the song a nd te rights to it and sometimes even the ASIN code doesn't work which can be very annoying.
