Monetization Question

So I've been able to monetize most of my videos on YouTube but I thought about starting a new series on YouTube that would take clips of television shows and add my commentary to them. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this but is it possible to monetize a video series of mine if I take clips from existing television shows?

It's a very slippery slope.

I think it can be very dangerous to use film clips or TV serie clips of which you don't own the rights.
 
i think is a grey area i mean it all depends how you do it, i believe if you dont include any of the original audio from the clip then it might be ok, i would say try it. worst case scenario you will receive a copyright notice before a strike, it gives you a chance to remove the content before youtube gives you a strike on the channel.
 
Even that seems risky, BC not including the original audio defeats the purpose of what I'd be doing. Could I still do the series without monetizing the videos?
 
yea, most of the copyright problems occurred when trying to monetize...the only thing is that is you ever decide to be a partner you will have to get rid of them videos before applying
