Monetization and Copyright Question :s

Hey, so I've made a short film and I've added 'Dog Days Are Over' by Florence and The Machine.

Can I upload it to YouTube and not monetize it? I won't be getting paid to use it but there's no way i can ask for permission to use the music as she's a big artist and probably can't see my message.

So can i upload it and just not monetize it?
I'm so confused >.<

You could but if you ever want to apply for partnership, you're going to have to delete it anyway. Have you thought about using royalty-free music, or music from a smaller artist?

Yeah, but this music, I've planned it for the vid and everything xD So will I definitely be able to upload, not monetize and I'll be fine?:s I wont be earning money off it anyway :s

Well, as long as Florence and the Machine's record label don't find the video, you should be fine. And if they do, all you have to do is delete the video. So for now you can. :)

No, they usually do get a strike. The record label usually puts advertisements on the video to make up for lost revenue.

When the video has copyrighted content, it gets notified, and it starts displaying ads for the original content creator. That's why lyrics videos have ads, they're for the artist, not the person who uploaded the video. If you do that, then ads for them will be placed on your video. No strike as far as I know, you'll just have that happen to you.

It`s copyrighted content , so you don`t have the legal rights to upload it,
this can , get you a copyright strike (Can`t join a network or get thumbnails) or if you do it twice if can get you banned from YouTube.

Also if it matches third party (it will) then you wont be able to watch it on mobile devices...

I wouldn`t advice on uploading it....

You guys should consider stop using copyrighted music, it is not worth it. It will bite you in the butt eventually. Right now you might think, I won't monetized it, then eventually once you start getting views and subs that "hey, I can make a couple of dollars on YouTube" but now you've got copyrighted stuff all over your channel. You try to remove all that stuff. Then YouTube comes along and takes all your views. Or, you monetize them and you get a strike. Either way not cool. But it's up to you. :)
