Might try out Vlogging...need help

Whats up guys? So I started a gaming channel 3 weeks ago on Youtube, and so far it has turned out really nice. I really enjoy doing it. I love doing live commentary during my games, but a lot of times I really enjoy talking about world events. Well seeing as I do sports games, I doubt a lot of them are going to want to hear about most events going on around the world. So I'm thinking of doing some vlogging, just simply giving my opinion about a certain subject. Not going to do anything fancy. So, since this is my copyright, can I partner with Youtube right away and monetize? Is this smart? I know nothing about this, so help is appreciated.

Can't you monetize your vlogging videos by just monetizing your videos through youtube?
