making a custom logo

i work with GIMP, and have started to make some really nice backgrounds, BUT, i want to make a logo the just says "LZ", to use as my avatar and on my little "designed by" thing, but i won't use any fonts in case they have copyright or whatever, so anyone got any tips on how to make a custom one without the use of pre-made fonts

Where is the logo going? If its just for your channel I wouldnt worry about issues with using fonts, I cant see anyone taking you to court over a YouTube icon not unless you were making a fortune from it.

well i was thinking if i started to get bigger and use a logo as branding for my channel, then i thought it would be better to have a custom one.
