Is it possible to enable YouTube monetization for perks such as YT Custom Thumpnails (This is for gaming videos) but not enable monetization for them? Just for the perks then sign up with any Gaming network after?
 
Yep :) That's what I do on my gaming channel! Not a single video is monetized but I enabled monetization for custom thumbnails :)
 
I'm currently a "YouTube Partner" according to my dashboard but my channel's too small and insignificant for even a halfway decent network to consider me, I did exactly what you suggested and enabled monetisation but then never bothered to monetise my videos just so I could have custom thumbnails :) And it's not like it'll stop me joining a network later on either
