Is it a bad idea to transition a channel with 50,000 subscribers to a new topic and hide old vids?

I have a successful channel I built up over many years with about 50k subscribers. I used it as an adjunct to my business, and it still gets 17-25k views a month and makes at least $70 in ad revenue.

I stopped posting regularly several years ago, and have decided to launch a new business which will have a major youtube component.

I know that I have many loyal fans who remain, and some of them would certainly follow me to the new topic, but probably not most.

Would it be worth it to change the channel details, hide my old vids, and start posting my new content to the channel?

Would it be better to just start a channel from scratch and leave the old one up, even if it meant a much long ramp up period?

Anyone do this? How did it go? Any advice welcome.

I've never ran a channel that large, but i think it depends on how different your channel topics are.
Switching from a History channel to a channel about fixing Cars might not work very well. This could impact your watch time as your audience will likely abandon the content early and that will impact how far your videos get shared.
That being said, if the old channel is going to be dead anyway, you could always use it for the new content. Sounds like you have some fans that will follow you no matter what. I would
suggest making a video saying that you are changing the style of content you post from A to B. Get your audience excited about the new topic. and if after a few months it doesn't work out, you could always re post everything to a new channel over time. That's what I would do.

I don't really have much experience but thinking with what common sense I have, I think that as long as you communicate with your viewers and set low expectations of how much of your audience will stay, while it might be horrible and you might lose a decent chunk of your audience because of the transition, it could also end up paying off in the long run because then you will see who is loyal to you because of the content you provide, not just the topic of the content itself.

These are YOUR changes in YOUR life, makes sense to salvage some of previous investment to help with new objective.
Tiny channel experience here = switched topic & name around 70subs mark, without any notifications, but agree with others = with larger audiences you should make a video letting them know of your changes.
