30 something Dad's with their kids. LOL

The reason I say this is because a few days ago I got an email from a Dad who said that he and his son were both fans and loved Antoine and the show. He asked for a special request. He asked if Antoine (one of my puppets) could give his son a birthday Shout out. I was so flattered, that despite having a hectic week, a went ahead and made a vlog, simply to have a video on which I could wish his son happy birthday. :)

Anyway, so it's not what I would have aimed for in a target demographic, but the more I think of it the more it make sense. I'm a 30 something step dad who works in a children's museum. LMAO!

The only prob I have with that, is that if I truly decided to aim for that demo, that I would be limiting myself, and I would have to remain relatively clean and pg13. So far it hasn't been a problem, but I know from ideas that I've had, and haven't executed yet that it could be a problem.

Since I'm only at 89 subs (got 2 more today!) should I not think to much about this and just keep putting out what i feel like at the time? Or should I start focussing on a demographic?

I would greatly appreciate people's thoughts on this.

Aww I think its awsome you got to wish a kid happy birthday!
As for focusing on a demographic.... well, if theres things you really want to put out there that wouldnt be appropriate for the younger audiances, maybe just put a warning at the begining of your video when its needed. I dont think you should limit yourself, but if you know that younger kids are watching it would be good to be sensitive to that.

Thanks, I think the warning thing is a great idea!!!

You could make two channels, one for adult humor and one for family friendly, or you can do what I do and separate your channel into PA and family friendly sections. I think that really does make sense man, your style of humor is a little... it's not what most of the young hipsters are into these days. But when it comes to families and their kids and young parents who can relate to you and your situation, yeah I can totally see that working. I actually need to tell some of my family in Amarillo about your channel, they watch all these comedians and people who do stuff very similar to what you do, I bet they'd like your channel.

yea a warning at the start might work best, while having two separate channels is also a good idea,it's hard enough to get people to subscribe to just one channel maybe in the future when you have a stronger following but yea! don't put limitations on your self bro, have fun with it and people will have fun with you even if it gets over pg13 im sure they'll forgive you ;) keep on keeping on man i love your channel!

Yeah I think he's right. I've got 40 subs on my comedy/music channel and 8 on my vlog channel. So people who subscribe to one don't necessarily subscribe to the other. Granted I don't promote the vlog channel really at all, but yeah I'd say separate your channel into 2 sections, and have one that's like "fun for all ages!" And one that's like "After the kids are in bed, here's some stuff for the grown ups!" Well I mean.. something catchier than that lol. But yeah I think that would be fine. I'd say at that point if some kid goes on your channel behind his parents' back and watches something they wouldn't approve of, you can't be blamed.

As a Dad myself I wouldnt mind seeing longer episodes with the puppets in, sort of the like The Muppets more a show than sketches, I know that my son would prefer longer episodes than the shorter ones. I will get him to watch it and see what he thinks. That vlog reminded me of childrens TV shows where they wish kids a happy birthday, thats very nice of you doing that and I am sure the kids will be well impressed :D

I would just keep more adult videos in a playlist for it and keep doing what you are doing whilst doing stuff that appeals to kids.

Ok guys thanks for all the feedback !!

I'd love to see what your son thinks of my videos.!

I've been thinking of merging my shorts with my vlogs to make longer videos that are more like shows. What do you guys think?

Picture my vlogs, combined with my music videos and a couple shorts and jokes.... like a real show called "the stuff show" that was my original idea when i created the channel. I'm thinking perhaps I should move in that direction, and not worry about demographics just yet.

I think you can always try it out and see how it goes, maybe dont bother mentioning the change in your videos and just doing it would be better because people are a lot less likely to notice and if it doesn't work out you could always change things up.

I tried to get him to watch the new friend one but he was insisting he watched Garfield on the TV (he is has a phase with him at the moment) but I will try and get him to watch it soon and ask him what he thinks, he's only turning 4 at the end of March though :D

I like the idea, it sounds good to me.
