Monetization basically gives you some features such as custom thumbnail, make a little bit from adsense, and also have your videos be longer, Partnership allows you to make money, have a cooler background, Get more attention, and stuff. Im not an expert but i think thats the gist of it

Most people have told me to go with partnership instead of monetization. Apparently there are more benefits.

Monetization allows you to make money off of your videos through Google Adsense, you will get no other channel customization other than thumbnails.
Partnerships give you all of that, except you're monetizing with the network (the people who partnered you ex: Fullscreen, Machinima, etc.) and you get extra customization features such as banners. You can also earn extra money doing extra things depending on what Network you join. And they also help increase your visibility.
