having trouble understanding in-stream ads

Crawlerz

Loving YTtalk
so I have adsense for some time now and am seeing literally cents trickle in. of course I'm not about to start cheating or anything like that... and I don't have a lot of subs either. 218 as of today. most videos aren't monetized cuz when I posted them a long time ago I wasn't entirely clear that they won't be monetized, and frankly I didn't even think of it then.

back to the matter at hand... I been uploading some long videos as of late (some Borderlands 2 coop with me little bro at 40+ minutes a pop, and TDU2 tutorials) and I am seeing the monetization options as preroll ads, postroll ads, and midroll ads. I want to enable midroll ads, but for some reason I check the box, save but see no ad! then check settings again and the box is UNchecked. WTF.

now I know what you will say: the video IS monetized and NOT copyrighted by anyone else. the dollar sign IS on, no emails from youtube came. it just doesn't save.

is this a bug?

I have no idea man, that just sounds like a glitch, and the worst part is, if it IS a glitch, you're gonna have a hell of a time trying to get anyone at YT to fix it. I say "a hell of a time" when in actuality its "there's no way in hell" lol. So hopefully it will correct itself or something, cause youtube doesn't exactly have a tech support hotline...

yh but see THEY are the interested party in this cuz channels like machinima, fpsrussia and so on are making millions of $$$ in ads! and when there's talk of money, they should be quick about it

You'd think so wouldn't you? But youtube doesn't think that way. In fact they seem to be trying to keep the small channels down. That's the reason they added the "highlights" feature, it was them saying "are you sure you really wanna see those small channels you subscribed to? Wouldn't you rather see THESE elites?" They don't look at the small channels as an asset or valuable to them, to them we get in the way of their "stars". So while you would THINK youtube would care about you and I who probably make them 5 or 6 bucks a month, just because that's STILL money, but they don't. They're more like "get out of the way pip squeak, there are shane dawson's and Ijustine's to promote"

yh but it worked nearly always with PREROLL ADS but I've always had trouble with MIDROLL ADS. for some reason I type a time (and I specifically for a humorous commentary timed it to 01:19) and it don't effing work! what gives! preroll ads are OFF (they say you cannot have more then one ad per 7 min). this is making me head hurt[DOUBLEPOST=1349740293,1349739733][/DOUBLEPOST]seems midroll ads reset for others as well. this must be a glitch http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/youtube/2Oi2nLqLd2o

Are your ads 7 minutes apart? Because that's the only way mid roll ads will work.

not only are they 7min apart, they're the only ads! that is no pre and on post roll ads. same with all other videos, and judging by that YT forum thread I am not alone. must be a glitch

OK I think I semi-understand what's going on. (read at own risk, this is me talking)

adsense knows that preroll ads bring in much more then small ads. they purposely (or the advertizer) don't run them at certain times of day (i.e. most watched, i.e. evenings). during the day they work at my time intervals. BUT

the midroll ad checkbox still is glitched and won't stay checked. that needs to be fixed of course.
