Finally Crossed 1000 Subscribers!

OrbitGuy

Loving YTtalk
I was waiting to post this until I was sure I wouldn't drop back under 1000, but videaste says 1006 so I think I'm in the clear!

I just crossed 1,000 subs after a long grind with many breaks and many times where the growth was very very slow, but somehow I got it done in the end. Thanks for all of the very helpful informational posts on these forums, they made a huge difference in my perspective on how to reach my goals. The current series I'm doing which put me over the top was in large part crafted with a lot of the knowledge that I gained from reading posts on these forums about how to make engaging thumbnails and SEO and understanding my market and how to improve my presentation. I'm still kind of in shock I was able to get the last 95 subs in about a week! I'm also at over 970,000 minutes of watch time, so getting close to 1 million, probably within a week at this rate.

I really enjoy all of the useful information here and I'm glad we can all come together to share knowledge on YouTube stuff! Thanks!

(Now I'm off to work on today's video haha.)

That's an exciting number! 95 subs in a week is really great. Try to pinpoint what caused the improvement and use that knowledge to your advantage! :D Keep up the great work!

good job, now it's time to start looking at what type of video's got them there, and what will make them come back to watch more.

Thanks, yeah I think that's the easy part actually, just have to keep making more videos on Castle Crush. Just got about 50 subs overnight and the gateway video I made a few days ago exploded along with my channel getting about 500-600 realtime views per hour during my morning peak. I think I need to just keep doing what I'm doing and figure out how to make it constantly interesting. And try not to get burned out.

Thanks for the support all. Big learning process here for me still. Not sure how to sustain this other than to keep doing what I was doing.

I have a question : What did you change ? Your videos that are 3 weeks old(er) have between 20 and 2000 views (most in the lower quarter) but your newer videos (1week or younger) get consistently 600-3000 views ? Did you start sharing on reddit, using more tags etc. or is it just that you are now making content of different games ?

It has to do almost entirely with the game I think. I make videos mostly on mobile games and that can really pay off sometimes because there are a lot of new ones entering the market all the time and even the big channels can't keep track of them all sometimes. I had been scoping out the app store on a daily basis after my last game got shutdown, looking for a new one. I just happened to get a bit lucky this time #1 in that no big channels picked up the game instantly and #2 by the time one did post a few vids I already had like 8 of mine ranked well.

I haven't shared any of the vids on reddit. I did tag them very specifically though and although it took a while for them to rank on the best tag, "castle crush", they now do partly because there was very little competition over the past week... It also helped that my gateway video for the game has done really well and has decent audience retention at 68.9% which is much much higher than any video I've ever had on my channel with comparable views.

I made a big adjustment also earlier this week where I decided to cut my video length from about 10-14 mins to around 7 mins or at least less than 10, and that has helped immensely with audience retention going up. Most of my videos before that were in the 25-30% range and now they are above 35% since then with 2 vids at 56%, one at 68% and one at 42 % retention. The new videos are most importantly getting viewed longer than the older videos were even though they were longer so I'm not sure why that is.

But yeah it's just different game content which happened to have low competition and high demand and also is still Top 10 in Strategy games on the App store, was up to #5 or 4 a few days ago. This is the real advantage for small youtubers playing mobile games is that there are so many new ones and new opportunities every month.

Seems fair. Also the higher retention could just be a censequence of you doing better videos. I´m glad you found a game thats doing well for you, maybe it´s the gateway to content that is not too much based of the game but based of your person(ality). Thats the best thing that can happen to a gaming youtubers. Cheers !
