We all know that we are not allowed to use content that we do not own unless we have the proper license but there are times when monetization was not approved or removed for not so obvious reasons.
I thought it would be interesting to hear from other youtubers about their monetization experiences or lack of.
Here is something I experienced a few years ago that is kinda funny. I recorded a video of my son in a parking lot (car park) trying to break into his car after he locked his keys in the car. He was purdy mad and having a hard time. My recording would pan from his red mad face to the melting ice cream then to shots of strangers laughing and back to his mad red face. The video was only about 45 seconds long. Everything went well during the upload process and it monetized just fine. The video was getting good views, about 12,500 views in just a short period of time. Then the next morning I checked the video and the monetization was removed. The youtube email said it contained third party content and the advertisers will be refunded. Well, I could not believe it because the only audio was my son yelling and of me agitating him. I sent email after email to youtube's various help departments but never could get a straight answer. The only replies that I received were copy-n-paste generic replies pointing to the users agreement. Finally after almosting pulling out the last remaining few hairs on my head, Someone at youtube identified a particular song/music track that triggered them to remove the monetization. Turns out in the background of the video, for only 3-4 seconds someone drove by the camera with their radio on playing some type of hip hop music very faintly, You had to have headphones on to hear it, and that's why they removed monetization on that particular video.
What are some of your experiences as to why you could not monetize a video or had monetization removed?. Sharing your experiences may help other youtubers understand as to why their videos were claimed.
Thank you very much!
