Could I do this?

Could I use a sound clip of someone speaking from a film if I change the pitch? Like if I made it high pitch, or would that still be copyright?

No that`s still copyright... That`s like me saying can I use one of your videos if I speed it up....

Basics of is it copyright: If it`s not yours and you don`t have permission to use it, then you can`t use it :p

People do this all the time when doing music covers to avoid content ID matches, but yes it still is copyright. Unless its royalty free, its copyright and no way around it. Alternatively you can re-record what the scene said on our own and you will be fine.

Although it would be a good option to at least find some way of contacting the original artist. But since that seems highly impossible these days, I'd at least give credit and at least indicate that you don't own the soundclip. Although if it's a rare soundclip from a 1930s or 1940s film, there may be a chance the copyright is lost. I heard for music copyright only lasts 50 years after the death of the artist unless you're a sought after classic like the Beattles.
