Contacts and Friends

I don't see friends with the new layout, but I do see contacts.
Can someone tell me if this works like the old friends system?
Will adding contacts help me get more views/subs like friends did?
 
Yea...it looks like your friends could possibly just be converted into subscribers...which, no matter what is a good thing for people who friend whored, because one of two things will happen:

A. You'll gain more subscribers because people will be forced to watch your stuff and like it.

or

B. They'll all unsubscribe from you, but that doesn't change your subscription base, anyway...so...YAY!
 
Yeah, friends will be removed, you have to subscribe in order to stay in touch. I think the contacts is just for messages?
 
I dont get the whole suggested contacts when someone adds you, maybe something like "Contact Requests" would be more fitting, its not like they are actually just suggestions for you to add as a contact.

The only views I could imagine anyone getting from a contact request is if you add them as a contact and they go and check out your channel but for being on someones channel publicly, you wont get anything from them with them being hidden.
