Changing tags for video 2-4 weeks after it was published?

Hi everyone,

Like title suggests, during my first let's play uploads (9 videos) I did not understood tags / SEO quite well enough, so my tags sucked. I've been doing more research on which tags would be more fitting for that game, and replaced them for all 9 videos.

Now... does that even matter now, or is it too late? I heard the words "organic reach" here before, and must say I don't fully grasp the concept - do they have anything in common? Thanks!

if the video is doing well leave it be, if its not getting views go ahead and try to rework your tags. don't worry too much about views on your first video's I know its hard not to but your first few video's are more about learning than getting views.

True, my first letsplay series which I recorded very quickly as did not require to cut in many places was of questionable quality. I Think I marginally better with Celeste series which are now ongoing. The part 8 will be especially different.

But still, 5-20 views per video over more than a week is hardly a good number

I wouldn’t bother with it. Latest info directly from the engineers at the YouTube Creator channel is that tags are virtually useless on YouTube now. His recommendation was to spend all your time on the Title, Description and Thumbnail and only worry about tags as a last item. Holds almost “no significance” to the algorithm any longer. Which is odd to hear because I spend a while crafting long tail keywords. Apparently, the YouTube algorithm could care less.

I can’t post links here, but go to the “Creator Insider” channel on YouTube. (It’s YouTube’s own channel directed at creators.) Look for the first “MYTHBUSTING” video about tags. Was about 3 months ago. It was eye opening. So many YouTube “gurus” scream about tags, and apparently they are the least important of the ranking factors, if at all.

Wow this is eye opening! Thanks a bunch for directing to this!

Yeah I think I saw the same video! It's surprising given all the advice to focus on your tags online. I guess it makes sense since a ton of videos are being uploaded every day, it's hard for just key word tags to help you stand out... bummer :(.
