Can I just let Youtube sort it out?

Hi there! I upload a lot of videos of footage of me playing video games. Some of the games I play are pretty old and the companies owning copyrights for them are long gone. So, I don't monetize a lot of my videos cause I'm unsure if I'm allowed to or not but once in awhile I do monetize them. Now I've been noticing lately if I monetize a video and I get a third party content notification it just lets me know and I acknowledge it and the video is no longer monetized and that's it. No warning or strike or anything like that. So that leads to my question. Can I just monetize stuff and let Youtube sort it out or is this a bad idea because I might get slapped with a copyright strike or something. It hasn't happened yet after about 7 of my videos popping up with third party content notification. Thank you for reading and thank you more if you have a good answer. Goodbye and have a great life!

Hi @Hoeskee
It depends on a third party case by case, if they will want to make you problems, usually they just show ads on those videos and collect money from ads that shows on them (you are not getting paid for the ads that appear on a video with claimed third party content) however i do not like to have those videos with claimed third party content and i remove them from my channel to stay away from possible troubles.

If you're going to get a copyright strike, you will get one regardless of whether your monetizing the video. It's the same way when you join a network, they don't have any licences.

this varies a lot by the game, and its a big headache for gaming channels, regardless of networks or how big you are. best advice is don't bother monetizing anything unless you have tens of thousands of subs and if you have issues with copyright, just delete the video yourself. don't rely on youtube to sort things out in the least bit, cause they wont.

Ah, I see. Well thank you all very much for the input. I guess I'll hold back on monetizing freely and perhaps look into getting permissions and such. I feel like it's more work than I'd like to do but so be it. I also want to look into getting down with a network or something like that. I'm off to go research!

good luck op =)

but networks wont help you any really, they have no special licenses and cant deliver on the promises they make you entice you to sign their contracts. I strongly suggest you remain solo and avoid those.
